Testing, testing…this thing on?…So, we started a food blog!

Welcome to Casa Creatures! We are Chris and Steph and we started our first ever food blog today. As our name suggests, we are self-described “Home Monsters.” Our home– still mostly in its original mid-century form– is still without overhead ceiling lights even after three years since we moved in. As a result, it’s more like a dark cave, albeit a modestly furnished one. Take one step outside our suburban cave, and it’s as if we’re bears just coming out of hibernation, blinded by dazzling sunlight. Plus, we’re a tad grumpy without our ritual morning coffee 🙂

During quarantine, we took up many hobbies and began a few home improvement projects. The kitchen has seen its share of challenging food and desserts. Equally, the house has met its match. Before, we were two busy young professionals who barely had enough time to clean. Now, we are avid DIY-ers and four star restaurant chefs and master bakers.

Why we started a food blog

Week after week, I was testing different Pinterest, Bon Appetit, Epicurious, and Food52 recipes on Chris. However, I was disappointed to find that when it came to Filipino foods and desserts, there weren’t that many available, or they were written by non-Filipinos. I often found myself playing “Frankenstein” with desserts, often inspired by the creative videos I watched on Youtube (after all, isn’t that how the Cronut was born?) Anyway, once many friends and family started saying “Hey Steph, you should start a bakery!”, a light bulb went off and I decided it was better to teach a man to fish. Or, in this case, help people bake their own homemade bread and start a food blog.

We hope with this blog, you will enjoy learning our recipes and sharing them with your own family and friends. They will be impressed, and more importantly, their stomachs will be satisfied! We also plan on having other posts about our home improvement projects, how we planned our Filipino and American wedding, and even some whiskey reviews (Hey, we’re well rounded individuals!)

To keep updated on our future posts, you can sign up for our free recipe newsletter, or follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
